Hastelloy G - 30

Hastelloy G - 30

Hastelloy G-30 is a nickel-chromium-iron-based alloy containing elements such as molybdenum, copper, and tungsten. It exhibits exceptional oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance to mixed acids, particularly excelling in environments like wet phosphoric acid, nitric acid, and fluoride/chloride mixed acid media. Its high chromium content (28-31.5%), molybdenum (4-6%), and copper (1-2.4%) endow it with outstanding resistance to uniform and localized corrosion in harsh environments such as sulfuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, and nuclear fuel reprocessing. This alloy is widely used in strongly corrosive fields including fertilizer production, chemical processing, nuclear industry, flue gas desulfurization, and hydrometallurgy.

Products Features

High-Temperature Oxidation Resistance

Excellent Oxidation and Mixed Acid Corrosion Resistance

The high chromium content (28-31.5%) enables superior performance in oxidizing acids (e.g., nitric acid, sulfuric acid with Fe³⁺/Cu²⁺) and oxidizing-reducing mixed acids, outperforming most other nickel-based and iron-based alloys. Its corrosion resistance in wet phosphoric acid (containing sulfuric acid, fluoride, and chloride impurities) is far superior to that of stainless steels and many traditional nickel-based alloys.

High-Temperature Corrosion Resistance

Superior Intergranular Corrosion and Weldability

A super low carbon content (≤0.03%) combined with niobium stabilization minimizes the precipitation of intergranular carbides during welding or sensitization treatment. This allows the alloy to be directly used in most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition without requiring complex post-weld heat treatment.

High Stability

Excellent Resistance to Localized Corrosion

The synergistic effect of higher molybdenum (4-6%) and tungsten (1.5-4%) content provides outstanding resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. It performs stably in acidic environments containing halide ions such as chloride and fluoride, outperforming many traditional stainless steels.

Good Processability

Good Formability and Weldability

It can be formed by conventional hot and cold working processes and exhibits excellent weldability (suitable for GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, etc.). With proper welding control, post-weld heat treatment is not required, facilitating the manufacture of complex equipment.

High-temperature performance

Antioxidant Performance:

It exhibits good antioxidant capability in high-temperature oxidizing atmospheres. A continuous Cr₂O₃-Fe₃O₄ composite oxide film forms at 500°C in air, resulting in a low oxidation weight gain rate. However, this alloy is primarily designed for medium-to-low temperature corrosion environments (long-term use ≤ 400°C). Long-term exposure to the 450-650°C range requires consideration of the risk of harmful phase precipitation.

Pitting Resistance Equivalent (PREN): PREN = %Cr + 3.3×%Mo ≈ 28-31.5 + 3.3×4-6 ≈ 41-51. It demonstrates exceptional overall stability in acidic oxidizing environments containing halide ions.

Critical Pitting Temperature (CPT): CPT ≥ 55°C (ASTM G48 standard). It offers good resistance to localized corrosion in phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, and mixed acid environments containing chloride ions.

Suitable Media:

1. Wet-process phosphoric acid (containing sulfuric acid, fluoride, and chloride impurities)

2. Nitric acid and its mixed acids (nitric acid/hydrochloric acid, nitric acid/hydrofluoric acid)

3. Sulfuric acid (moderate concentration, especially when containing oxidizers)

4. Acidic solutions containing halides

5. Nuclear fuel reprocessing media

6. Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) slurry
