Q: Can you provide material test reports or certificates with the products?
A: Yes. We provide comprehensive quality documentation with every shipment, including: • Chemical composition analysis
• Mechanical property testing (tensile, yield, elongation, hardness)
• Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) test reports (critical for INVAR and KOVAR)
• Hermetic sealing performance test reports (for KOVAR and other sealing alloys)
• Magnetic performance test reports (for applicable grades)
• Grain size evaluation and microstructural analysis
• Dimensional inspection records
• Third-party inspection reports (SGS, BV, DNV, etc.) available upon request
All reports are fully traceable to heat numbers and production batches.
Q: Do you provide technical support before purchasing?
A: Yes. Our engineering team provides technical support throughout the selection and specification process, including:
• Material grade selection based on your CTE requirements, operating temperature range, and application environment
• Dimensional tolerance and form (bar, sheet, strip, pipe, wire) recommendations
• Heat treatment and processing guidance to achieve required material properties
• Application-specific support for glass-to-metal sealing, cryogenic service, and precision instrumentation
Please share your project requirements, and we will recommend the most suitable precision alloy solution.
Q: Can INVAR and KOVAR be welded?
A: Yes. Both INVAR and KOVAR can be welded using TIG, resistance welding, electron beam welding, and laser welding. Post-weld stress-relief annealing is recommended to eliminate grain growth or precipitated phases in the heat-affected zone. For INVAR, due to its low thermal conductivity, careful heat input control is required to avoid thermal stress concentration. Use matching filler wire to maintain consistent expansion properties.
Q: How do you ensure dimensional stability during long-term service?
A: We ensure dimensional stability through precise stabilization heat treatment (300-400°C for INVAR, 10-20 hours; 300-400°C for KOVAR, 1-4 hours) to eliminate residual stress. INVAR also requires controlled furnace cooling rates (≤ 200°F/h) to prevent austenite supersaturation, which could cause phase transformation and CTE change during service. All shipments include CTE test reports confirming thermal expansion performance.
Q: What is the lead time for custom precision alloy orders?
A: Lead times vary by product type and quantity. Standard stock sizes ship in 3-7 days. Custom-cut or simple processed items take 2-4 weeks. Custom forgings or special dimensions require 4-8 weeks. Heat treatment (stabilization, pre-oxidation) adds 1-2 weeks. Please contact us with your specific requirements for a firm delivery schedule.
